Some of you may not know this but my hair is naturally curly. While I absolutely love my curly hair, I straighten my hair because it is convenient and easy to maintain. However, after a while, I realized that my hair was suffering from heat damage. When I noticed that my curls were losing their curl pattern, I decided that I am going to limit the amount of heat that I apply to my hair. Before I even researched different hairstyles and ways to maintain my curls, I knew I needed to help my hair get healthy again. In this post, I will be sharing tips and tricks on how I restored my dry and damaged hair and got my beautiful curls back with SheaMoisture. You can hover over the photo below to learn more about each individual product that I purchased at Walmart.
I have used SheaMoisture in the past. I love their products but this time around I wanted to focus on the actual problem that I had with my hair. My hair was dry and damaged from using a flat iron. While shopping at my local Walmart, I came across the SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil collection. This collection is primarily used for those looking to strengthen and restore their hair. This is exactly what I needed. I picked up the SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Shampoo, SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Conditioner and the SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Leave In Conditioner. I found the entire Jamaican Black Castor Oil collection in the hair care aisle at Walmart.
The key ingredients in the SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil collection are: Organic Shea Butter which is meant deeply moisturize while conditioning the hair and scalp, Jamaican Black Castor Oil which is loaded with reparative omegas that reduce breakage and promote healthy hair, and peppermint oil which helps invigorate the scalp for a stimulating experience. Now that we have covered the basics, allow me to share my curly hair routine. It is very simple and I literally use these three products: SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Strengthen & Restore Oil Shampoo, SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Strengthen & Restore Oil Conditioner andSheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Strengthen & Restore Oil Leave In Conditioner.
Step 1: Apply the SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Strengthen & Restore Oil Shampoo, gently massage from root to ends. Rinse thoroughly. Repeat if necessary.
Give your hair strength and luster with SheaMoisture’s Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Shampoo. This is a clarifying, sulfate-free shampoo that removes product build-up while infusing hair with moisture. Leaves hair soft and shiny. Gentle enough to use every day, this formula promotes healthy hair by nourishing and strengthening damaged and dull or chemically processed hair, reducing the appearance of breakage and shedding. Apple Cider Vinegar aids in balancing the scalp while softening hair and creating brilliant shine.
Just note that this is a liquid shampoo with a mild scent. I love that there isn’t an overwhelming perfume scent. A little bit goes a very long way. It cleanses really well and with the peppermint oil added your scalp has a really nice tingly effect after using, which I personally love. My hair felt super clean and did not have any leftover product build up. In addition to having dry hair, I do have a dry scalp. Therefore I found that the peppermint oil and apple cider vinegar blend certainly helped with this problem. Now to the next step.
Step 2: Apply SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Rinse Out Conditioner. I like to condition my hair for about five minutes. Then I rinse out with cool water.
SheaMoisture’s Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Conditioner with Shea Butter, Peppermint & Apple Cider Vinegar nourishes the scalp and strengthens damaged, brittle hair, while helping to reduce breakage and shedding. Peppermint Oil helps invigorate the scalp for a tingling experience. Leaves hair shiny and fully rejuvenated.
This is a fairly thick conditioner. When applying it, my hair is easily detangled and feels great on my scalp especially since it contains peppermint oil. Upon rinsing out, my hair felt silky and soft. There’s a soft scent that I love, it is certainly milder than the actual leave in conditioner.
Step 3: Apply SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Leave In Conditioner to clean, towel dried hair. Take a generous amount of product and put on your hair from the root to the end. Using a wide tooth comb, comb through for even distribution. DO NOT RINSE OUT. Apply additional product if needed.
SheaMoisture’s Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Leave-In Conditioner softens and detangles hair while controlling frizz. Perfect for those who regularly color, straighten, perm or heat style their hair, as well as kinky, curly or wavy natural styles. Formulated with Jamaican Black Castor Oil and certified organic Shea Butter to nourish, moisturize and support elasticity so hair resists breakage when detangling. Conditioners provide a protective layer that improves the appearance of split ends. Peppermint stimulates the scalp for an invigorating experience.
The SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Leave In conditioner has a stronger scent compared to the shampoo and conditioner and I love it. The leave in conditioner is a little bit of a liquid consistency however once applied to my hair, it absorbs really nicely. I instantly felt that the SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Leave In Conditioner was moisturizing my hair and my scalp.
After all of these steps are complete. I let my hair air dry and go about my day. After a couple of hours, my hair feels super soft. My curls are defined, hydrated and feel like they are back to life. The SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil collection works for me. I have noticed a drastic change in my curls, the products are not heavy on my hair and I’ve also noticed minimal shedding. The amazing thing about SheaMoisture is that their products are formulated without sulfates, parabens, paraffin, mineral oils and other harmful ingredients that may strip your hair of its natural oils, which is very important to me.
I am so happy to have my beautiful healthy curls back with SheaMoisture. You can #FindYourShea or the SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil at your local Walmart.
I am not sure if my wife uses shea moisturizer, i will definitely flip this article to her. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Great article. You have explained everything in details in a understandable manner. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful blog.
Your curls are so pretty, you shouldn’t straighten your hair at all! I wish I had curls, but my hair is so smooth and straight that I can never get them.
This looks and sounds great. I am so much more concerned with my hair that I used to be. So important to have this product to make our hair healthy.
This sounds like a great line of hair care product. This is something that would be really helpful with my dry hair.

I love Shea Moisture products especially the Jamaican castor oil collection.
I’m obsessed with it!
I am a shea moisture user as well, ironically, this is the one line that I haven’t used, except for the deep conditioner. I love the hydration line that SM puts out and I swear by their leave in conditioner. Their price point for their products is not bad either for what you get.
You are absolutely right! Shea Moisture has helped me discover products that will keep my curls looking fresh and healthy. I love this brand and I am so happy that you like them as well. I appreciate your feedback and thank you for stopping by my blog. xo
I love Shea Moisture! It’s one of my favorite products we use at home.
Really? That is so awesome!
So many people swear by these products, I know the importance of castor oil coming from the Caribbean. I have to give it a try.
Thank you for sharing this fabulous review…. I am always on the lookout for a new product to use and this is one that I will be on the lookout for 🙂
You are so welcome!
